How to Play, Understand & Figure Out All Scales – Part XLVII

The next group of scales will be exotic in nature. 

C Balinese Scale

ALL scales repeat the same pattern up and down in tone.

C major scale: C, D, E, F, G, A, B and C. Numbers are given to correspond to the major scale degrees or positions.

C Major Scale: C=1/Root, D=2nd, E=3rd, F=4th, G=5th, A=6th, B=7th, C=8th/octave.

C Balinese Scale: C=1/Root, Db=b2nd, Eb=b3rd, G=5th, Ab=b6, C=1/8 octave.

Memorize the C Balinese Scale note names and number formula.

C Balinese Scale – note names= C, Db, Eb, G, Ab and C

C Balinese Scale – number formula= 1/R, b2nd, b3rd, 5th, b6th, and root/8. 

 

C,  Db,  Eb,  G,  Ab   C

1,  b2,  b3,  5,  b6,  8/1.   

Now play and say out loud as you play the C Balinese Scale.

Play the C note twice ascending and descending to memorize root note positions.

Create progressions using the C Balinese Scale Family of Chords.

Each note of the scale is harmonized in three and four note chords (every other note).

Repeat this same process for bass, piano and any other instrument.
